Diversified Communications, a Portland-based trade show and media company, has acquired Aquaculture UK, a fast-growing conference for the aquaculture industry in the United Kingdom.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed in a news release Friday.
The last biennial Aquaculture UK show, held in Scotland in May 2018, had over 2,400 visitors and 190 exhibitors. Attendance at the upcoming event, scheduled for May 19-21, is expected to be up 25%.
“Aquaculture UK is an exciting development for our award-wining UK division as it continues to grow and strengthen its position as one of the most successful trade show organizers in the UK,” Diversified President and CEO Theodore Wirth said in the release.
“They now employ over 120 staff who are experts at providing their customers with industry insights and business opportunities while facilitating innovation and economic sustainability within the industries they serve. I look forward to seeing their positive influence on this event and the aquatic industry.”
The purchase adds to Diversified’s portfolio of aquatic industry events, which also includes Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global, Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America, Seafood Expo Asia, the International Workboat Show and Pacific Marine Expo.
Diversified Communications provides exhibitions and conferences, online communities and publications for over 15 industries including food and beverage, health care, natural and organic products and technology. Established in 1949, Diversified is a privately held, third-generation, family-owned business. It employs 500 people in 10 offices in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Hong Kong and the U.K., according to the company's website.
Last March, Diversified acquired three North American events that expanded its footprint in the renewable energy industry. The three events — Intersolar, ees (electrical energy storage) and Power2Drive North America — were acquired from the German-based organizers Solar Promotion International and FMMI.
