Portland International Jetport received two Airport Service Quality awards from Airports Council International recognizing it as the best airport in the United States serving under 2 million passengers.
Portland International Jetport also received an award for best customer service for facilities under 2 million passengers, according to a March 6 news release.
It was one of 14 airports worldwide cited by the trade group.
Airport Service Quality is the only worldwide program to survey passengers at the airport on their day of travel. The program measures passengers’ views on 34 key performance indicators, including airport access, check-in, security screening, restrooms, stores, restaurants, additionally capturing passenger comments of their best and worst experience at the airport. Three-quarters of the world’s 100 busiest airports are part of the program, which means that, in 2018, more than half of the world’s 8.3 billion travelers passed through an ASQ airport.
“This is our third ASQ award in four years for ‘best airport’ by size and category,” jetport Director Paul Bradbury said in the release. “We are in a very competitive air service market, where the consumer has a wide range of choices.”
The jetport won “best airport” under 2 million passengers in North America in 2015 and 2017.
This is the first year the jetport has won the best customer service award.
In 2018, the jetport served an all-time record 2.16 million passengers. This winter, it’s been pursuing a project to improve overall passenger experience. That’s included in installation of two additional elevators and a new escalator to address the facility’s aging demographic and to streamline passenger flow to baggage claim, Bradbury said. In the coming years, the facility will pursue improvements to the concourse, restrooms and baggage claim.
The jetport has an annual economic impact of over $1 billion to the local economy, according to the release. Seven carriers fly nonstop to 20 destinations from the jetport.
