Portland-Nova Scotia flight to kick off

A Montreal company will begin offering twice-daily airplane service between Portland and Nova Scotia in early February.

Starlink Aviation plans to announce at a press conference this afternoon its agreement with the Nova Scotia-based Yarmouth International Airport Corp. to provide round-trip flights connecting Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Yarmouth Airport and the Portland International Jetport. It will mark the first international service for Portland since 2002, when financially troubled Air Canada ended its Portland-to-Montreal route, the Portland Press Herald reported.

Starlink, founded in 1982, operates a fleet of 14 aircraft in Quebec. It will fly an 18-passenger Jetstream 31 turboprop from Yarmouth to Halifax and back, and then on to Portland, in morning and afternoon runs on weekdays. Prices are expected to be about $250 for a one-way trip from Halifax to Portland and $150 from Yarmouth to Portland, the paper reported.

Market research shows that there is plenty of business dealings between Maine and Nova Scotia to support the route, as well as Nova Scotians traveling to Maine and New Hampshire ski areas, the paper reported.
