Portland police said Friday they are investigating a string of over a dozen burglaries at commercial establishments in the city between Aug. 23 and Oct. 30.
Auto-related businesses seem to have been favorite targets in the two-month crime spree. Jiffy Lube, at 260 Riverside St., was burglarized twice, once in September and once in October, according to a news release. Paulin's Tire & Auto Care was also burglarized twice, at its 1036 Forest Ave. branch in September and the 1020 Congress St. location a month later.
Police said that while there are similarities in the 15 crimes, it's too early to determine if the burglaries are related.
"Detectives are actively pursuing investigative leads and are working with other greater Portland departments that have similar crimes in their cities," Lt. Robert Martin said in the release.
Officers are increasing their patrols throughout the city, according to Martin. But he urged local business owners to take precautions such as locking doors and windows. He asked anyone with information that might help solve the crimes to call Portland police at 207-874-8575.
Other than the locations and dates of the crimes, no further details about the break-ins were immediately available.
