A Chipotle Mexican Grill location is the first new business to be open to the public in a redeveloped business complex, known as Century Plaza, owned by the Portland-based Northland Enterprises at 45 Marginal Way complex.
The fast-casual restaurant will be joined soon be a T-Mobile retail store as the complex’s two anchor tenants at the former site of Century Tire in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood.
“It’s always exciting to see business come to life in an area that’s being redeveloped,” Josh Benthien, who along with his business partner Rex Bell is a principal owner of Northland, said in a release. “Since the closing of Century Tire, the neighbors have been eager to see the area bounce back. It’s been a complex project, but we’ve worked closely together with Portland City Hall, and it’s nice to see that work come to fruition.”
The Chipotle's actual address is 195 Kennebec St., behind Marginal Way.
Northland purchased the former Century Tire site from Atlantic Bayside Investments in 2015. In addition, Northland acquired 1 Marginal Way, 200 Kennebec St. and 202 Kennebec St., all of which it plans to redevelop. Century Tire closed in February 2014 after 90 years in business at 45 Marginal Way, according to a release from Northland.
