Projects needed for $4M Efficiency ME funds

Efficiency Maine is accepting grant applications from businesses and organizations for its new competitive program that will dole out $4 million for energy-efficiency projects.

The program will award grants between $100,000 and $500,000 to commercial, municipal and nonprofit organizations for large electrical-efficiency and distributed generation projects, according to a press release. The grant may not constitute more than 50% of the total project cost. The deadline for applications is 2 p.m. Oct. 31, and the request for proposals can be found here.

Last year, Efficiency Maine awarded $4.3 million electrical-efficiency projects at nine businesses and organizations across Maine, which allowed recipients to lock in a portion of their electricity prices at 1.8 cents per kilowatt-hour. This round of funding is expected to save enough electricity to power 4,600 homes annually.
