Revenue from lottery sales down

Revenue generated from lottery sales will likely come in $2 million under last year's record high, the head of the state's lottery operations said.

Tim Poulin, director of operations at the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations, told the Ellsworth American that lottery sales are expected to be $2.1 million under last year's revenue when the fiscal year ends June 30. Last year, lottery sales hit a record of $52.2 million. Though sales of instant tickets have increased 3.8% over the year, sales of online tickets have fallen 6.5%, he said. Megabucks Plus ticket sales, the largest online seller, dropped 22.8%, while Powerball sales fell 19.6%, according to the paper.

Poulin attributed the decrease in Powerball and other online ticket sales in part to a lack of large rolling jackpots.
