Richardson Hollow owner off the hook

Linda Hertell, the former owner of a defunct social services agency, will not be sued by the state for allegedly not paying employees $177,000 in back pay and unpaid vacation time.

A judge dismissed the case after the Maine Attorney General's Office failed to file paperwork by deadline on the lawsuit against Hertell by the state Department of Labor, the Sun Journal reported. The AG's office did not comment to the paper.

Last September the mental health service provider abruptly shut down after struggling financially for a year, according to the newspaper. The state had demanded in a lawsuit that both Richardson Hollow and Hertell reimburse 133 employees for twice the amount owed, as well as interest and attorney fees.

Charges against Richardson Hollow, the agency Hertell ran in Lewiston, will still be considered.
