Rockland city officials are expected to consider a proposal that would create regulations for Airbnb and other services that facilitate short-term rentals of rooms and houses.
The Bangor Daily News reported that the proposal, while still in development, comes after concerns from local bed-and-breakfast businesses that such short-term rentals are not being regulated like other lodging services. As of Feb. 19, Airbnb listed about 29 rentals in Rockland and 239 in the midcoast area on its website.
Rockland Code Officer John Root said the proposal would not impact long-term rentals of houses, instead focusing on rooms that are being rented for less than a week and houses rented for less than a month at a time.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Airbnb's website listed 238 rentals available in Rockland. That was the number of rentals in the midcoast area. The mistake was the result of a sourcing error.
