Two Rockport businesses owners are being accused of bilking nearly $5 million from an international company they previously worked for, according to a new lawsuit.
The Bangor Daily News reported that New York-based window treatment company Hunter Douglas Inc. filed a lawsuit on June 30 against Jason T. Throne, Mary C. Throne and their company, Patent Services Group Inc., in U.S. District Court in Colorado. The company is seeking unspecified damages for actions it said amount to racketeering.
The lawsuit claims that Jason T. Throne, who served as Hunter Douglas’ senior patent lawyer for more than 20 years, billed the company through Patent Services Group, a Rockport-based company he formed with his wife in 1999, for work that was allegedly never performed. The Throne couple collected checks from Hunter Douglas between 2000 and 2014 that amounted to at least $4.8 million, according to the lawsuit.
An attorney for the Thrones told the BDN that they are “not going to litigate this case in the press,” adding that the “allegations in the civil complaint are just that — allegations.”
