Rumford Hospital CEO to retire

John Welsh, CEO of Rumford Hospital, has announced he will retire on July 1.

Welsh, 66, has led the hospital for 23 years and has overseen its merger with Central Maine Healthcare and its switch to electronic medical records, according to the Sun Journal. He plans to retire to the family farm in Boothbay and begin vegetable and tree farming with his wife, Rebecca. He will still continue to serve as chairman of the state board representing the seven Community Dental practices around the state, as well as serve as a member of the LifeFlight Foundation board.

Bridgton Hospital CEO David Frum will take over Welsh's job in addition to his own, a move that will reduce costs for Central Maine Healthcare, according to the paper.
