Rumford selectmen back off casino

Rumford selectmen have distanced themselves from a proposed casino in Oxford County after voting 3-2 last month to support it, according to the Sun Journal.

In a board meeting last night, Selectman Brad Adley said the casino is "too much of a hot potato. We should cut and run. We don't need to be here," according to the newspaper. Selectman Frank DiConzo, who voted last month to support the casino proposal, said the board should remove itself from the equation and let statewide voters decide in November whether to allow a casino in Oxford County.

The decision comes after the Sun Journal accused the board of holding an illegal meeting last week when it met with the casino's chief proponent Seth Carey behind closed doors.
