Saddleback ski area will purchase a marina on Rangeley Lake in a bid to be more than just a winter getaway.
Saddleback Maine has reached an agreement on a lease/purchase of a 60-slip marina on nearby Rangeley Lake, according to a press release from the ski area. The marina also has the capacity to add 60 more slips. The purchase is expected to be completed in early May and is consistent with Saddleback's strategy to become a more viable year-round vacation destination.
The ski area, which the Berry family bought in 2003 along with 8,000 surrounding acres for an estimated $8 million, is undergoing a 10-year, $150 million expansion.

Saddleback's paid visits are up 22% over last year, and real estate sales at the resort over the season total $4 million.
