NewPage restarts Rumford mill

NewPage Corp. restarted its paper mill in Rumford this weekend, bringing most of its 800 hourly employees back to work, according to the Sun Journal.

The Miamisburg, Ohio-based company said in early March it would idle its mill between March 22 and 29 in an effort to match production with demand for the coated paper it manufactures in Rumford. The company laid off 30 salaried employees and roughly 100 hourly workers in January as part of its goal to cut 150,000 tons of product during the first quarter of 2009.
