Limestone sign co. furloughs 50

A Limestone sign company has furloughed indefinitely about 50 workers at its plant in the Loring Commerce Center.

Pattison Sign Group was forced to idle the plant after five years in operation due to the sagging economy, Carl Flora, president and chief executive officer of the Loring Development Authority, told the Bangor Daily News. "Orders are low and the company had no choice but to idle its machines and announce the furlough," he said. The company makes signs for banks and auto dealerships, which have suffered from the recession, he said. Calls by the paper to company officials were not returned Thursday.

Pattison Sign Group is the largest on-premise sign and visual communication company in Canada and second-largest in North America, according to its website. The company has five manufacturing facilities in North America, the paper reported.
