Saddleback Ski Resort in Rangeley is talking to possible buyers and looking at alternative options for the upcoming ski season after announcing in July it wouldn’t be able to open without funding for a new lift, the Morning Sentinel reported Monday.
The resort announced on its Facebook page last week it was not going to install a new high-speed quad chairlift to replace the aging Rangeley Double Chair, the central lift that brings skiers from the base lodge up the mountain, this year. But it hopes to have an operational plan for this winter in place by the first week of October.
In its post last week, Saddleback said four separate buyers were looking at buying the resort and operating this season with the existing lift configuration, and another buyer was considering buying the resort in the spring.
The resort is looking at a limited operation for the 2015-2016 season if the first option, having a buyer in place to run the resort this winter, doesn’t materialize.
In July, the owners of the resort said they needed $3 million in financing to replace the 51-year-old chairlift in order to open for the coming winter.
The family-owned ski resort has been on the market since 2012.
