Scarcelli's family files countersuit
Two weeks after Rosa Scarcelli sued her mother and stepfather for allegedly mismanaging housing projects, they have filed a countersuit alleging Scarcelli improperly used money from her company, Stanford Property Management, to finance her 2010 run for governor.
In her lawsuit, Scarcelli claimed her stepfather, Karl Norberg, refused to remove her mother, Pamela Gleichman, as a general partner in the family's affordable housing company after Gleichman mismanaged several properties. Scarcelli's suit asked a judge to confirm she owns 70% of GN Holdings LP and the authority to dictate the company's management, but her mother and stepfather said she has no ownership stake in the company.
Now, Gleichman and Norberg allege Scarcelli diverted funds from another company, Gleichman & Co., to her campaign without their consent and that she inflated project costs in order to help pay personal expenses, according to the Bangor Daily News. Scarcelli is CEO of Stanford Property Management in Portland, which she acquired from her mother and stepfather in 2007, though Gleichman is still 49% owner. Stanford manages properties for Gleichman & Co. Norberg and Gleichman's suit asks the court to dismiss Scarcelli's suit and dissolve Stanford Property Management.
An attorney for Scarcelli called the suit against her "baseless" and an attempt to publicly embarrass her.
