Maine's large ski mountains saw successful 2010-2011 seasons, one that set records at Saddleback Ski Resort in Rangeley.
The ski mountain reported record revenue, record skier visits and record snowfall for the winter season, according to a press release. General Manager Chris Farmer said revenues increased more than 10%, while the number of skiers and snowboarders rose 14%. The mountain received a total of 276 inches, or 23 feet, of snow, a more than 4-foot increase over the seasonal average of 225 inches.
Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley received 192 inches, or 16 feet, of snow, and its lift ticket revenues rose 5.3% compared with last year, according to the Sun Journal. Lodging revenues increased 6% and skier visits were also up. In Newry, Sunday River saw 153 inches, or nearly 13 feet, of snow. The mountain closed April 24 after being open for six months, making it the longest ski season on the East Coast, spokeswoman Darcy Morse told the paper.
