A longtime skier with extensive experience in resort operations has been appointed general manager at Sunday River Resort in Newry.
Brian Heon will begin his new job on May 1, according to a news release.
Heon will be responsible for day-to-day functions at Sunday River, including on-mountain operations, skier services, food and beverage, the SnowSports School, facilities, public safety, information technology and the Sunday River Golf Club.
Heon has served in positions at Walt Disney World, American Skiing Co. and Peak Resorts, where he most recently was general manager of Wildcat Mountain in Gorham, N.H. He is also co-chair of the National Tramway Standards Board, and is a representative of the American National Standards Institute.
His hiring coincides with the resort’s recently announced plan to guide development through 2030, focused on new infrastructure, year-round business and reaching a net-zero carbon impact.
Dana Bullen, who has been with Sunday River since 2004, will continue his role as the resort’s president, focusing on the Maine ski area’s operational and financial performance, real estate development, and long-term growth strategies.
Sunday River is one of New England's largest ski resorts, with the second-highest vertical drop in Maine, after Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley. Both Sunday River and Sugarloaf are owned by Michigan-based Boyne Resorts.
