Southern Maine Community College and Saint Joseph's College of Maine have signed 13 new agreements that will allow students in selected programs to start their journey at SMCC and transfer to Saint Joseph's, saving them both time and money.
According to the release, the transfer agreement will allow students to plan their college careers by comparing coursework between programs offered by both schools. The agreements will allow students to avoid unnecessary credits and spending money on courses that won't count toward their advanced degree.
Eligible students include those enrolled in SMCC's marine science; liberal studies focusing on psychology and science; social work; business administration; business management; education; health science; nursing; radiology and more.
"We are steadfast in accomplishing our goals to offer students an easier path to higher education and provide them with the necessary support to succeed," said Joe Cassidy, SMCC's president. "These new agreements allow SMCC students to reach their individual goals while preparing them to meet Maine's crucial workforce needs."
These new articulation agreements are in addition to the previously announced Community² program.
Community² allows students to be part of the culture of both institutions with 10 transfer agreements from SMCC to complementary programs at Saint Joseph’s. The program removes administrative barriers for students, saves time and money and makes Saint Joseph’s housing available to SMCC students in their second year.
"Community², added with these new agreements, gives our students an amazing opportunity for educational success,” said Cassidy.
