Broadband giant Charter Communications Inc., branded as Spectrum, said Tuesday it will pay 100% of the tuition costs for full-time employees pursuing some academic degrees and certificates.
The education benefit will offer the company's 101,000 employees tuition-free access to over 300 online programs and degrees from more than 30 universities and learning providers. Spectrum will also cover qualified program-related expenses such as books, supplies and enrollment fees.
In Maine, Spectrum serves 466,000 customers in 295 communities and employs roughly 750 people.
Participating employees are encouraged to pursue business-aligned programs in high-growth areas for the company including operations management, marketing and technology.
“Creating meaningful opportunities for career mobility results in a more knowledgeable workforce, which ultimately benefits our customers as well,” said Paul Marchand, chief human resources officer.
The Charter Education Benefit is managed by Guild, a career opportunity company that helps employers provide their workers with tuition-free education, career development and coaching.
Spectrum employees will have access to undergraduate and associate degrees, high school diplomas, college prep, certificate programs and English language learners programs without having to pay out of pocket for tuition. Spectrum will also cover up to $10,000 per year for employees to pursue select graduate and undergraduate degrees outside of the Guild.
