Portland-based wealth management firm Spinnaker Trust, which earlier this year converted to ESOP ownership, announced that Chief Trust Officer Amanda Rand will become the firm’s next president at the start of 2018.
The announcement was made at a reception celebrating the company’s first 17 years of success.
Rand will take over from Dick Curran who founded the firm in 2001. Curran will remain chairman of the board and will continue to provide client services and develop new business.
“Spinnaker is empowered by its clients to ensure the longevity of their wealth,” Curran said in a news release. “To achieve that objective and serve clients best, Spinnaker Trust must also ensure the longevity of the firm. Accordingly, we continue to develop the next generation of leadership and with great confidence selected Amanda Rand to become our next president.”
Spinnaker manages over $1.5 billion for a global clientele, providing a wide range of financial services, including investment management, trust and estate planning, tax services and ESOP trustee services.
Rand, who has been with Spinnaker in various capacities for the last nine years, pledged to remain “true to Spinnaker’s culture” and continue to cultivate “the next generation of leaders at the firm.”
“Doing so ensures that we are able to offer multiple generations of clients the Spinnaker standard of service which will continue to be grounded in a deep institutional history and knowledge of each family’s unique financial situation,” she said.
A graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School, Rand has particular expertise in wealth and complex estate planning and trust administration.
She has been with Spinnaker Trust for nine years, most recently serving as executive vice president and chief trust officer. Prior to joining Spinnaker, she worked as a trusts and estates lawyer, focusing her practice on complex estate planning and trust and estate administration.
Rand began her career at Ropes & Gray LLP, in Boston, before returning home to Maine to work at Pierce Atwood LLP and McCandless & Coburn LLC, a boutique estate planning firm.
A native of Falmouth, she lives there with her husband, Mark, and their three children.
Spinnaker Trust is a Maine bank founded in 2000 and chartered as a non-depository trust company that manages more than $1.5 billion, providing a wide range of financial services, including investment management, trust and estate planning and tax services.
