Stantec lands $35M contract for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard upgrades

Stantec, a global design firm with offices in Topsham and Scarborough, has received a $35 million contract to plan and create the preliminary design of a multi-mission dry dock and other upgrades at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery. Portsmouth Naval Shipyard has 6,450 employees and a total economic impact of $751.8 million in 2017.
Stantec (NYSE: STN), a global design firm with offices in Topsham and Scarborough, has received a $35 million contract to plan and create the preliminary design of a multi-mission dry dock and other upgrades at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery.
The Kittery projects are part of Stantec’s $60 million contract to perform waterfront architect-engineering services for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is one of the country’s four public shipyards that range in age from 110 to 250 years old: Norfolk, Va. (1767); Portsmouth, Kittery, (1800); Puget Sound, Wash. (1901) and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii (1908). The Navy is planning a $20 billion capital program to modernize and restore the public shipyards.
Under the $35 million contract at the Kittery shipyard, Stantec will provide preliminary design services to enhance the shipyard’s capabilities to support naval personnel, including dry dock structures used by workers repairing and modernizing U.S. Navy submarines.

Stantec’s $60 million, five-year Navy contract for multi-discipline design services is anticipated to include: dry docks; piers; wharves; bulkheads; crane rail systems; fender systems; berthing and mooring; dredging; coastal and shoreline protection; and waterfront-related utilities. The work will be completed for Navy facilities in NAVFAC’s Mid-Atlantic region, including Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and other locations as needed.
