TD Bank extends Bates Mill lease

TD Bank has extended its lease on offices in Lewiston's Bates Mill out to 2025, negotiating a lease agreement for the space two years ahead of schedule, according to the Sun Journal.

The agreement, signed in December, keeps TD Bank in the downtown space that now hosts 800 employees.

Larry Wold, Maine market president for the bank, told the paper that the opportunity to lock in favorable lease rates in exchange for the long-term commitment prompted the plan to stay in Lewiston for at least another decade.

Wold told the paper that the company considered other locations amid tough competition provided by local and state governments that are eager to bring job growth to their communities.

The bank, then Peoples Savings Bank, has been at the mill location since 1998 and is the largest retail bank in Maine, by deposits.
