Tom's of Maine founders expand new co.

A Kennebunk-based wool apparel company started by the founders of Tom's of Maine has expanded into Saco.

Ramblers Way Farm, co-founded by Tom and Kate Chappell last year, has leased nearly 15,000 square feet on Industrial Park Road in Saco to be used as a manufacturing and distribution center, according to a newsletter from Portland real estate firm CB Richard Ellis/The Boulos Co., which brokered the deal. Ramblers Way Farm harvests Rambouillet wool from sheep raised on location and in ranches in the western United States to make clothing.

The Chappells in 1970 founded Tom's of Maine, a nationally known company that makes nature-based personal care products, and in 2006 sold 84% of the company to Colgate-Palmolive for $100 million, according to Forbes.
