Two Maine companies working on plans for an ecofriendly resort near Acadia National Park have severed ties with the developer. Winter Harbor Properties Inc. announced last spring plans for a resort on more than 3,000 acres of the Schoodic Peninsula. But a philosophical disagreement about how to proceed with the project, designed to promote land stewardship and sustainable development, led to a payment dispute between the developer and Bangor architecture and engineering firm Ames A-E , the Bangor Daily News reported. Consulting firm Maine Street Solutions also has stopped work on the project. Michael Saxl, a former speaker of the Maine House who works with the firm, said the project still has the potential to change the development model in Maine but declined to comment further, the paper reported.
Initial ideas for the project include a "green corridor" of preserved land, environmental education facilities, a hotel, an 18-hole golf course and house lots.
