Tyler Technologies opened its new 95,000-square-foot campus expansion on U.S. Route 1 in Yarmouth on Wednesday.

The $28 million project roughly doubles the company’s space. The Yarmouth campus can now accommodate up to 750 employees. It is the largest employer in the town, which has 5,859 residents. This year, Tyler plans to add 55 employees.

“The opening of our new Yarmouth facility underscores our commitment to Maine. We believe it is a positive development for the community, as well as for our employees and clients,” said CEO John Marr Jr. “Throughout our Maine offices, we foresee the potential growth of 575 new jobs for Maine through 2025, and this building is a symbol of our pledge to the area to continue to innovate for our clients and provide a great place to work for our employees.”

Tyler Technologies (NYSE: TYL), which is based in Plano, Texas, is the largest software company in the nation solely focused on providing integrated software and technology services to the public sector, including municipalities and schools.

Tyler’s roots in Maine go back to 1962, when John Marr Sr. founded Process Inc., which later became The Computer Center and then was renamed MUNIS in the 1980s. The company was sold to Tyler Technologies in 1999 and Tyler has maintained a strong and growing presence in Maine ever since, serving 215 clients in the state and employing more than 700 staff in its Yarmouth, Falmouth and Bangor offices.

New space in Yarmouth includes a number of features “designed to create a comfortable and healthy space for employees,” the company said.

Features include adjustable workstations, windows designed to maximize natural light, an expanded employee cafe, a fitness center, a basketball court, bike racks and access to trails for hiking, running, cycling and snowshoeing.

The new building is designed to reduce the impact on the environment with LED lights, underground stormwater collection and management, hands-free sinks, low-flow plumbing, motion-controlled light switches, a natural gas powered HVAC system, filtered water refilling stations and a recycling room.

“Tyler Technologies has been an important part of the Yarmouth community for years, and we

are very pleased that they have chosen to make such a substantial investment here,” said Peter L. Haynes, chairman of Yarmouth’s economic development advisory board.

“As Yarmouth’s largest employer, Tyler will be adding jobs and expanding the town’s tax base, reducing the tax burden on residents. Smaller businesses also benefit from the increased demand for goods and services that flow from larger numbers of employees working in the town.”
