Tyler Technologies Inc. has officially opened its newest office in Orono, which is expected to have roughly 75 full-time and part-time employees.

Tyler Tech (NYSE: TYL), which is based in Plano, Texas, already has a significant presence in Maine, with more than 1,250 employees, many of whom are in Yarmouth and Falmouth. The company's roots in Maine date to 1962.

The Orono site, at 5 College Ave., creates dedicated space for employees that had been housed in space in Bangor and allows for greater collaboration with the University of Maine.

In 2021, Tyler Technologies initiated a partnership with the Foster Center for Innovation at UMaine for Tyler’s annual Maine App Challenge, which gives Maine high school students the chance to explore software design and development by building a mobile application. Tyler has donated $100,000 in scholarship money since the program began.

“The University of Maine has been a source of excellent talent for Tyler over the years, particularly in the technology and engineering space. We’re confident our physical presence in Orono will further build our long-standing practice of hiring UMaine interns and graduates," said Chris Webster, president of Tyler’s ERP and civic division.

The new building, which was designed by Portland-based SMRT and built by Consigli Construction, of Portland, features:

  • A contemporary, open work area
  • Focus rooms for virtual meeting participation and client collaboration
  • Huddle spaces for small group work and hybrid or virtual meetings
  • Training room, which can be used by the community during non-office hours
  • Fitness center, locker room, and game room for employees.

The space was dedicated at a ceremony on June 27.

On hand to celebrate the important occasion alongside Tyler were local community members, University of Maine leaders, the architect and the construction project team.

The location was once the site of the University Inn Academic Suites, a 48-room hotel owned by the university. Tyler acquired the property in 2021 and razed the hotel.
