The battle between a former union official at Bath Iron Works and the International Machinists Union continues, with the IAMAW announcing they will conduct an internal trial for Mike Keenan.
Keenan, the suspended president of Local S6, BIW's largest union, sent a letter yesterday to union members announcing the trial on April 27. Keenan and three other local officers were suspended by the IAMAW in 2008 after allegations of financial mismanagement and pornography viewing on union hall computers. The national union took over lodge operations, and Keenan and the ousted officers have since sued the union over defamation.
John Carr, spokesman for the IAMAW's eastern territory, told The Times Record that the former officers did not pay union bills and lost union label merchandise, though Keenan denies the charges. "I ran a clean and honest Union Hall," Keenan wrote in yesterday's letter to Local S6 members, "and thank God I made sure to put everything in writing."
