Unitil files for 6.3% rate increase
Unitil has filed a request with Maine regulators to increase its natural gas distribution rates by 6.3%, starting next year.
The company says the request represents a requested increase of $4.6 million in base revenue for its Maine division. The filing also includes a multi-year rate plan that seeks to recover the company's costs for operational and safety improvements planned for the coming years.
Mark Collin, the company's CFO, said in a press release that because of the low cost of natural gas in relation to oil, approval of the rate increase "[would] not appreciably impact the cost advantage" to customers.
The company is requesting the rate increase to go into effect Jan. 1, 2014.
