Orono-based University Credit Union has hired Lauren Cornelio to its team of community engagement managers.
Based in Scarborough, Cornelio will cover southern Maine and work alongside managers Jenn Deschene in Presque Isle, Seth Poplaski in Orono and Ree Anna Bridges in Machias.
She joined UCU from the Maine International Trade Center, where she interned as a "future global leader," collaborating with staff to optimize international trade for Maine businesses.
“UCU is thrilled to welcome Lauren Cornelio as our new community engagement manager in southern Maine, where she has been very active in the community as a student, intern and leader with several community institutions,” said Renee Ouellette, president and CEO of University Credit Union. “Lauren brings a vibrant passion for leadership and people helping people that will serve our members and communities well in this role.”
Cornelio earned her bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Southern Maine, where she also recently received a master’s degree in organizational leadership.
She is also an active founding member of the alumni council at the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute, where she was an intern and a student leader.
Established on the University of Maine campus in 1967, University Credit Union has branches in Bangor, Farmington, Gorham, Orono, Portland, Presque Isle and Machias. As a not-for-profit financial cooperative, UCU returns its profits to members.
UCU ranks No. 6 among the largest Maine-based credit unions, with assets of $476.8 million, according to the 2024 Mainebiz Book of Lists. The credit union currently has about 28,800 members.
