Walmart Inc. is planning to add 50 full-time employees at its warehouse in Lewiston, and is holding a job fair on Saturday to begin recruiting them.
The new jobs include openings for order fillers and other roles in the company’s grocery distribution center, which currently has 520 workers and serves 122 Walmart stores throughout New England, according to a news release.
Wages start at $16.90 per hour and can reach more than $19.50 an hour based on work area, shift and schedule. Compensation also includes medical, dental and vision insurance as well as other benefits.
The big-box retailer said the Lewiston hires are among thousands of new supply-chain workers it plans to bring on across the country.
“We’re seeing continued growth in ways that few companies can,” Greg Smith, executive vice president, Walmart U.S. Supply Chain, said in the release. “As we continue to invest in the supply chain of the future, we are expanding our ability to serve customers by ensuring we have the right people in place.”
The hiring event is scheduled for Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Walmart Distribution Center, 31 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston. Potential employees can learn about the jobs available, meet with managers, and even be hired on the spot.
“We are excited to welcome additional Walmart associates to our DC and proud of our ongoing investment in the local community,” said Lewiston Distribution Center General Manager Richard Bourget. “These new positions serve as a great launchpad for a rewarding career.”
