WestPoint in Biddeford makes layoffs

WestPoint Home Inc., a textile manufacturer in Biddeford, laid off at least a dozen people last week, according to Richard Fifield, director of the Springvale CareerCenter.
Fifield did not have an official count of layoffs at WestPoint Home, but said about a dozen laid-off workers from the blanket manufacturer attended a rapid response meeting held yesterday. Fifield said he assumed the reason for the layoffs to be a lack of job orders.
According to the Journal Tribune, WestPoint laid off 25 workers last Friday. No one at the company was available for comment, and calls to the city manager and mayor were not returned by press time.
