On a scorching summer Thursday across Maine, a thermometer of the state’s home-sales market is also running hot.
A ZIP code that covers most of Windham, 04062, ranks No. 15 among the “hottest ZIP codes in America” for residential real estate, according to Realtor.com, the home-listing website of the National Association of Realtors.
The Hottest ZIP Codes Report, released Thursday, ranked “heat” in the nation’s 42,000 ZIP codes on the basis of demand, as measured by unique viewers per property on realtor.com, and pace, as measured by the number of days a listing remained active on the site.
The micromarkets were compared using data from January to June. Only the highest-ranking ZIP code in any metropolitan area was considered for the list.
Windham, a town of 17,000 about 10 miles west of Portland, also encompasses ZIP code 04082, in the south. The town has seen an influx of new population and new housing starts in recent years.
The No. 1 ZIP code in the country for hot home-selling is 80916, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Also ranking higher than Windham’s were the ZIP codes in Peabody, Mass., Manchester, N.H., Milford, Mass., and Concord, N.H.
Homes in the top 10 sold three times faster than those on last year’s list, Realtor.com said. This is the seventh year the website has compiled the rankings.
