Research released last week by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that double-masking — wearing a cloth face mask over a surgical mask — can reduce exposure to COVID-19 by as much as 96%. The findings come as concern grows about new, more contagious variants of the novel coronavirus, some of which may also be more deadly.

However, as the number of COVID-19 vaccinations increases and case rates decrease nationwide, some states are relaxing requirements to wear masks at all. In Maine, there have been protests in Augusta, Belfast and elsewhere against the state's mask mandate.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Wolensky recently warned: “If we relax these mitigation strategies with increasing transmissible variants out there, we could be in a much more difficult spot. Now is the time to not let up our guard. Now is the time to double down.”

    Try this when it is really cold out and you can see your breath. Breathe out normally, cough like you have a tickle, cough hard, laugh, and sigh. See how far your water vapor travels. Then research and get really good multi-layer masks and repeat the same experiment with one and then two masks.

    We have added replaceable filters to our doubled cloth masks

    We are double masking in the store. All customers have to wear at least one mask to enter, no exception. We will continue to mask in the store until CDC Guidelines suggest it is no longer necessary...even if Governor Mills ends the mask mandate.

    Some are double masking, some aren't. All are masking, though, and will continue to for the duration, even after being vaccinated.
