On May 24, Maine ended public health requirements for the use of face coverings, and many businesses have embraced the change as a welcome return to "normalcy." But some aren't quite ready to make the transition.

Mask mandates set by businesses themselves continue to trump the state policy, and on Sunday a variety of Maine restaurants, retailers and other businesses still required the coverings for customers and employees. At other establishments, customers wore masks even though none were required.

The new state policy also continues to recommend that people who are not fully vaccinated wear face coverings in indoor public settings.

I do not trust anyone not wearing a mask as they lie all the time and are walking around all smug about not wearing a mask. I have 3 that I work with that will not vaccinate and do not wear mask.

We have an immune-compromised granddaughter who is too young to be vaccinated. Also, we want to front-line workers to feel comfortable. They have no way of knowing who is and who isn't vaccinated.

I have an autoimmune disorder so even though I'm vaccinated I'm still wearing one at places like the grocery store.

I am fine with, and will wear a mask, in businesses requiring them.
