On May 24, Maine ended public health requirements for the use of face coverings, and many businesses have embraced the change as a welcome return to "normalcy." But some aren't quite ready to make the transition.

Mask mandates set by businesses themselves continue to trump the state policy, and on Sunday a variety of Maine restaurants, retailers and other businesses still required the coverings for customers and employees. At other establishments, customers wore masks even though none were required.

The new state policy also continues to recommend that people who are not fully vaccinated wear face coverings in indoor public settings.

Until we know more about this bug and its variants I feel it only prudent to continue to exercise caution, even though my family is fully vaccinated. I suspect that Jon Rahm is taking precautions more seriously after his recent encounter with the disease.

I'm wearing a mask in most stores, but especially grocery stores. The behavior is ingrained and I want to keep it up at least through flu season.

Why wear a mask that has already been shown to be completely useless preventing the spread of the virus since the virus is so much smaller than the filtration capability of even the N95? Masks are as effective as a chain link fence in keeping mosquitos out. EDITOR'S NOTE: The minute size of the virus is irrelevant, since the purpose of the mask is to stop the transmission of the *aerosol droplets* that contain and spread the virus.
