Atlantic Federal Credit Union, Maine's largest credit union, has promoted from within for new chief people officer.
In the newly created position, Lucy Ditzel will be responsible for overseeing the company’s talent management, organizational culture, employee engagement initiatives, recruitment efforts and performance management.
Ditzel brings 12 years of experience in human resources and training and development to the position.
“As we continue to grow towards our vision, there is no doubt that our people management must be given the same strategic focus as other critical business areas," said Scott Chretien, CEO of Atlantic FCU. “In her current role, Lucy has successfully blended our talent management, organizational culture, and employee engagement initiatives with our company goals. She has been a leader in training and development, a champion of performance management and an advocate for our recruitment efforts."
She previously served as vice president of human resources and development, director of human resources and training and director of learning and development at Atlantic FCU.
The Portland resident received a bachelor’s in psychology from Simmons College in Boston.
Ditzel joined Atlantic four years ago this October and has been on the front lines of organizational change ever since.
“It is an incredible opportunity to continue supporting and empowering our dedicated employees,” said Ditzel. “Our people are what make this organization great, and I am fully committed to growing our high achievement and high support culture.”
Atlantic Federal Credit Union has $1 billion in assets and serves more than 49,000 members, with branches in Biddeford, Brunswick, Cumberland, Freeport, Saco, Sanford, South Sanford, Topsham, Westbrook and York.
In March the Atlantic FCU announced the completion of its newest branch in Westbrook, at the corner of Larrabee Road and Riverside Street, at Exit 48 off the Maine Turnpike. It also invested $18 million in a new South Portland headquarters.
Atlantic is No. 1 among Maine’s largest credit unions, according to the 2023 Mainebiz Book of Lists. That ranking is ranked on total assets as of Sept. 30, 2022.
