Auburn mulls new biz park

Local developers have proposed a new 30-acre business park in Auburn that would function as a logistics and distribution center.

Developer Building Solutions of Oxford and Hartt Transportation, which owns the property, have submitted plans to the city for Kittyhawk Business Park, the Sun Journal in Lewiston reported today. The park's proximity to the turnpike, the airport and the intermodal facility would appeal to out-of-state companies looking to reduce their transportation expenses, and the location inside the Foreign Trade Zone would eliminate some duty taxes, Joseph Casalinova, president of Building Solutions, told the paper. Casalinova said the park already has garnered interest from General Mills and its subsidiaries Pillsbury and Betty Crocker, as well as a few hotels.

The planning board is expected to review the proposal July 8.
