Barber Foods recalls 1.7M pounds of meat

Barber Foods in Portland has expanded a recent product recall to 1.7 million pounds of frozen chicken products that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The Portland Press Herald reported that the announcement was made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday after the AdvancePierre-owned company made an initial recall of about 58,000 pounds at the beginning of the month.

The original recall of Barber Food’s Kiev product was made after six people were reported ill in Minnesota and Wisconsin, but two more illnesses have been reported since then.

The company’s website said that it is “working collaboratively with the USDA to modify our production practices including, but not limited to, additional levels of microbiological analysis and additional control procedures to reduce Salmonella in both incoming and outgoing raw stuffed chicken breast products.”
