BIA receives another $4M for improvements
The Bangor International Airport has received $4 million from the Transportation Security Administration to upgrade its baggage inspection system. The announcement comes just one day after the airport learned it will receive a nearly $5 million grant to rehabilitate its aviation apron.
U.S. Sen Susan Collins in a press release yesterday said TSA Administrator John Pistole told her the agency has granted the city of Bangor and BIA more than $4 million for the design, construction and testing of a new checked baggage inspection system. The new system will be fully automated and located behind a wall, as opposed to the current, more open screening location in the lobby. The project could be completed as early as the end of the year. Collins said the new system will be safer and more efficient.
The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded BIA $4.9 million for the rehabilitation of its general aviation apron, which will allow the airport to accommodate larger aircraft. Construction work will happen this year.
