Bowdoin Medical Group and Martin's Point Health Care have entered into exclusive discussions to explore the possibility of an affiliation.
Both organizations provide primary care services at multiple sites in Maine. While no final agreements have been reached, the organizations have signed a letter of intent, according to a press release. "It is a challenging time for independent primary care organizations across the country and many are looking at ways to collaborate," said David Howes, president and CEO of Martin's Point.
It will likely be at least several months before any final decision will be made. No changes to patient services are anticipated as a result of an affiliation.
Bowdoin Medical Group provides primary care in Biddeford, Gorham, South Portland, West Falmouth, and Brunswick. Martin's Point Health Care is a nonprofit regional health care provider operating centers in Portsmouth, N.H., Portland and Brunswick, and its Evergreen Woods affiliate in Bangor.
