A Freeport-based hotel owner and operator is proposing a 94-room hotel in downtown Bath.
Maine Course Hospitality Group this week filed its plan with the city for the hotel on a 1.9-acre plot between Front Street and Commercial Street, according to The Times Record in Brunswick. Maine Course Hospitality Group's Peter Anastos said the project has solid financial backing and that the group has a purchase and sale agreement on the site, which is owned by John G. Morse and Sons of Phippsburg. Maine Course Hospitality Group also operates the Best Western Freeport Inn & Café and the Muddy Rudder restaurants in Brewer and Yarmouth.
Four years ago, the city of Bath demolished a derelict warehouse on the same property to make way for a hotel projected by New Hampshire-based Ocean Properties that never made it past the planning stages. The proposal is slated to go before the city's planning board on Nov. 18.
