Contractor Deschaine to be liquidated

Assets belonging to roofing contractor David J. Deschaine will be liquidated as part of Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings.

An auction is scheduled for Nov. 4 for the business's commercial property, including a building with offices on 0.4 acres in South Portland and gutter and vinyl siding inventory, according to the Portland Press Herald. Deschaine told the paper he used the commercial property in South Portland and another location as collateral to finance a 13-lot subdivision in Lewiston in 2005, which has struggled due to the housing crisis. He plans to continue to operate a smaller roofing business out of his home, which is next door to the commercial property.

The company is known for its TV commercial tagline, "Keep out the rain. Call Dave Deschaine."
