Darling's Auto buying Ellsworth dealership

Brewer-based Darling's Auto Group plans to acquire Morrison Chevrolet of Ellsworth by the beginning of next month. Morrison owners Bud Morrison and Clyde Lewis are retiring.

Darling's Auto Mall General Manager Kevin Tesseo told the Bangor Daily News the company plans to retain Morrison's current staff of 40. Darling's already operates dealerships in Ellsworth as well as Augusta and Bangor, selling Audi, Buick, Chrysler, Dodge, GMC, Ford, Honda, Hyundia, Jeep, Nissan, Volkswagen and Volvo. The acquisition will be Darling's first Chevrolet franchise. According to data compiled last year by Mainebiz, Darling's was the fourth-largest auto dealer in Maine in 2010, selling a total of 5,832 vehicles that year.

Lewis said he and his co-owner have decided to retire after spending 50 years in the business. Bud Morrison's grandfather founded the company nearly 80 years ago.
