The court has denied an injunction filed by wreath maker Worcester Holdings that would have forced its Machias-based competitor to abandon its new facility.
A judge at Hancock County Superior Court denied a preliminary injunction that would have forbidden Whitney Wreath from using its facility under construction on Route 1 in Whitneyville, according to the Bangor Daily News. The injunction is part of a lawsuit Worcester Holdings in Columbia filed in July, alleging it owns the property on which Whitney Wreath's new building sits and asking for the building to be removed and damages paid. The lawsuit put construction on the building on hold and forced Whitney Wreath to lease three other buildings, according to the paper. Earlier this year, Whitney beat out Worcester for a contract for wreath and balsam products with L.L.Bean, and began building the facility to accommodate the increase in orders.
The court is scheduled to take up the lawsuit again on Friday to determine if it should proceed, according to the paper.
