Drummond Woodsum has named a tax attorney as the next co-leader of the firm’s business services practice group.
Chris Stevenson will co-lead with Michael High, who has served as the practice group leader for over 23 years. Stevenson will advise clients on a wide range of federal and state tax compliance issues and tax controversies that come before taxation authorities.
“We are pleased to offer a mix of seasoned and newer leaders to our clients, who are both well-suited for these key positions,” said Toby Dilworth, managing director. “We look forward to their guidance as the firm continues to provide our clients with the highest-quality legal services.”
As a tax attorney and CPA, Stevenson focuses on federal and state tax compliance issues. Stevenson frequently advises businesses on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions; he works with nonprofits on organizational and operational compliance with federal tax rules and establishes joint ventures with for-profit entities.
Stevenson has extensive experience counseling businesses, nonprofits and public employers on qualified and nonqualified deferred compensation plans, health plans, and other employee benefit arrangements.
He has assisted Tribal Nations with tax-exempt economic development bonds to finance projects and advised about tribal tax matters. He helped implement the Indian Health Service referred care program under the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act of 1975. The Indian Health Service program provides medical and public health services to members of federally recognized Native American Tribes and Alaska Native people.
Stevenson received a bachelor's in science from the University of Vermont in 2001. He also earned a J.D. from the University of Maine School of Law in 2007.
