Ari Solotoff, a Portland-based entertainment lawyer who has represented clients including the Mallett Brothers Band and true-crime podcaster Kylie Low of “Dark Downeast," has joined Drummond Woodsum to launch a new practice area at the Portland law firm.
Solotoff, who founded a boutique firm in Portland in 2020, will lead the firm’s entertainment, media and the arts practice group, to significantly expand the firm’s service offerings, especially in copyright, entertainment law and the arts.
"Ari brings a wealth of experience and a unique approach to the entertainment law space ... We look forward to the contributions he will make to our firm and the clients we serve," said Bill Stockmeyer, the firm’s managing director.
Solotoff’s expertise includes the valuation and sale of music catalogs and podcasts, scripted and unscripted television and motion picture development, and cutting-edge rights and licensing issues in artificial intelligence, as well as digital and social media.
He has also been a champion for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ artists, advocating for equity, inclusion and representation in the arts and entertainment industries.
“I’m very excited to join Drummond Woodsum and work alongside such a respected group of professionals,” he said. “This opportunity will allow me to provide even more comprehensive legal services to my clients while continuing to work at the forefront of entertainment, arts and culture law.”
Solotoff holds a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in classical languages from the University of California, Berkeley.
Drummond Woodsum was ranked as Maine’s largest law firm in the 2025 Mainebiz Book of Lists, displacing Bernstein Shur as No. 1. Rankings were based on the number of Maine-based attorneys.
