The largest business customers of Central Maine Power Co. can expect to see an almost 20% decrease in electricity costs, to 6.9 cents per kilowatt hour, according to a new standard offer accepted by the Maine Public Utilities Commission.
The new lower rates apply only to large commercial customers who haven't made their own electrical supply arrangements, according to a PUC release. For mid-size and large commercial businesses of Bangor Hydro-Electric Co., and other classes of commercial customers of CMP, rates will remain relatively unchanged at between 6.8 cents and 8.3 cents per kilowatt hour, reflecting a stable market, according to PUC Chairwoman Sharon Reishus. Standard offer service, which varies by customer class and month, is the default supply for electricity customers, if they haven't purchased supply from another retail supplier or through an aggregator.
The new prices are effective Sept. 1 for a six-month period.
