Fairchild patent suit dismissed

A federal court in San Francisco has dismissed a four-year-old patent infringement lawsuit filed against South Portland-based Fairchild Semiconductor.

The lawsuit, filed by San Jose, Calif.-based Power Integrations Inc. against System General Corp., a Fairchild subsidiary, was dismissed after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected two of three patent claims made by Power Integrations, according to a Fairchild press release. The case rested on whether the patents were obvious, meaning the product was not unique and could be developed by anyone in the industry.

Fairchild acquired System General Corp. in 2007, after Power Integrations had filed a lawsuit against the company alleging patent infringement.

Last week, Power Integrations filed a new complaint against System General in a Delaware court, alleging infringement on three U.S. patents, the press release said.
